How do I open a portable home safe without the combination?
There are many example of the technique to do this on YouTube but here are my thoughts and WHY this is possible.
A neighbour lost his key to his Yale Safe recently luckily it was not bolted down as he used it for medications (not money). I simply bounced it on his bed and turned the lever at the same time and voila it opened (to his amazement!). I reset the code to something easy for him to remember and no problems ever since.
Yesterday a friend visited and handed me a safe, she knows I enjoy locksport (lockpicking as a hobby). Again locked with no keys but this time gave it to me to play with. I did the old bounce trick and again after a few attempts it worked.
But this time I will replace this cam lock (the emergency manual lock if the batteries fail) with one from Amazon for £7 bucks.
Well it is worth more than £8 when restored with a new lock with 2 keys. Why would I bother you might ask? Well as mentioned before for medications (carers, parents who do not want their children being able to access powerful meds) it remains a good investment. If bolted down out of the way its still find for petty cash and jewelry and far safer (no pun intended) than a purse in a handbag hanging on a door in your home!!! Or your gold chain on a china hand on your dressing table! Just do not put the crown jewels in these! If you want to put money in them buy a fireproof wallet. Whilst they do not work with direct flames (as tests show n YT) they are heat resistant.
So remember to do it on a mattress as you get more inertia below is why this happens.
OK here is the release switch.
Below is the panel removed I reset the code to 1111 (for now).
Here we see the soft spring loaded release mechanism.
OK there are many examples of this technique but I will give
When you bounce the safe the weight of that metal plate pushes down on the spring with inertia/gravity if you time twisting the opening leaver at the same time as the spring bottoms out you will open the safe! If you know anybody who has a safe like this and it is not bolted down although a rubber mallet on the top can have a similar effect. It is a shocking party trick to show just how vulnerable their belongings and valuables are!
Have fun and happy days (and stay legal). Remember this technique is for use with your own or safe where you have permission to do this.
